How does it help? Aerobic exercise boosts immunity, strengthens the heart, and keeps the arteries clear - all factors which help prevent disease.

· Learn to Manage Stress, a Link to Major Illness. While stress can lead to heart attacks, cancer, and other major physical diseases, it also plays a role in mental illness, such as depression and anxiety disorders. But learning to manage stress, through meditation and therapy, for example, can help prevent the onset of diseases.

· Don’t Smoke for Prevention of Many Diseases. Smoking is attributed to the onset of many types of cancer, including cancer of the lung, bladder, mouth, and pancreas. Besides that, smoking can cause heart disease, emphysema, asthma, and numerous other chronic diseases. Kicking the habit, or better yet, never starting it, is a top health measure for preventing disease.

· Get Vitamins to Prevent Disease and Nourish the Body. Many studies have confirmed the importance of vitamin D in preventing disease, either through supplements or sunshine. A multi-vitamin is another good daily supplement. However, eating right is still the best way to ensure proper vitamin and mineral intake for health and longevity.

· Laugh Away Chronic Diseases. It’s no joke that laughter can help prevent and control chronic diseases, including diabetes and heart disease. University of Maryland researchers discovered that laughing can reduce clotting and inflammation, not to mention boost immunity. Even better, happy people tend to live longer lives.

· Enjoy a Hobby to Live Longer. The National Institute on Aging reports that people who participate in activities they enjoy may be at less risk of developing diseases, including dementia, and live longer than those who remain idle. Volunteer work, enrichment classes, and hobbies are all good activities for preventing disease.

· Spend Time in Prayer. More and more people who attend weekly religious services are living longer lives, disease-free. It may be because they tend to avoid risky behaviors, like smoking, and experience less depression and anxiety, which can lead to major illness.
