Forensic medicine

Forensic medicine/ legal medicine/ state medicine:

The term forensic comes from ‘forum’ the roman market place where lawyers did their business in ancient times.

Forensic= of or used in court of law.

Forensic medicine is the science which deals with application of knowledge of each and every branch of medicine whenever and whatever it is required the dispensation justice in a court of law both in civil and criminal cases. It helps the law in searching for the truth to maintain justice in the society.

Or, It may be defined the science which deals with the application of medical knowledge to aid in administration of justice. It is used by the legal authorities for the solution of legal problems. Some examples are, applying the medicine in deciding the cause of injuries, murder, suicide, accidents, sexual offences, poisoning etc. A physician may be engaged in forensic (or legal) medicine; a lawyer with comparable interests is said to be engaged in medical jurisprudence.  

Aims of forensic medicine:

• To aid the administration of justice by correlating much medical knowledge and applying it to the purpose of law.

• Truth or the nearest responsible approach to it that is responsible from what observed is the sole aim of forensic medicine.

• Its particular field of activity is judicial investigation, both civil and criminal e.g. homicide, suicide assault, sexual offences, traffic accidents, poising etc.

• Its finds out the medical evidence in all cases of crime involving the person.

•  It deals with medical aspects of law.

Role of forensic medicine:

•  It relates application of medical knowledge of disbursement of justice in a court of law.

• This subject teaches a man how to use his knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, medicine, surgery, and gynecology.

• To classify or solve legal problem or issues. These necessities examination of victims, accused person, complaints defendants’ responsible and different exhibit a medical man in relation to some criminal of civil cases.
