 Homeopathic asthma remedies
 Alumina
 Great weakness of chest. Difficult to expel mucus.

Antimonium tartaricum
 Great accumulation of mucus with coarse rattling, great drowsiness. Rapid, short, difficult breathing. Must sit up.

Aralia racemosa
  Asthma on lying down at night with spasmodic cough. Worse after first sleep, with tickling in throat. Very sensitive to draughts. Hayfever.

Arsenicum album
 Air passages constricted - unable to lie down - restless. Wheezing respiration. Agg. midnight. Unable to lie down as he fears suffocation. Especially suitable for attacks occurring as consequence of suppressed catarrh. Amel. motion. Good for ACUTE attacks between midnight and dawn particularly for chilly people who cannot breathe lying flat. Agg. cold drinks. Amel. leaning forward in bed, walking around (Stephenson). Start all ACUTE CASES with Ars. or Ipec. (Shepherd 2. p. 28). Follow with Thuja or Nat. Sul. Hahnemann said it was SPECIFIC for inflammation of the chest (quoted by Tyler p. 93). Blackie points out (p. 203) that CACTUS is very similar to Ars. alb. but without cyanosis (blueness, here due to blockage of air passages) which is the distinguishing factor.

Antimonium arsenicosum
 For asthma following ECZEMA.

Arum triphyllum
 Usually accompanied by profuse nasal discharge, urge to pick nose till it bleeds. Agg. from talking. PAGE 8  
 Blatta orientalis
 Asthma, when associated with Bronchitis, Acts best in stout corpulent people.

Bromium
 For sailors who develop asthma ashore. For fair-haired, delicate-skinned people. Difficulty in getting air into lungs. Cold sensation when inspiring (also IODUM) (Tyler p. 132) - note CHLORUM - difficulty in exhaling.

Carbo vegetabilis
 Asthma and bronchitis of old people, where case is desperate. When asthma starts after childhood measles or whooping cough.

Chamomilla
 Where there is a desire, but inability, to cough. Pressure about chest and heart. Patient cannot perspire. (Hering)

Chloralum hydratum
 Asthma with sleeplessness. Insomnia.

China officinalis
 When there is whistling and wheezing in the chest. Must lie with head high. Perspires easily, liable to take cold. (Hering)

Coca
 Asthma of the spasmodic variety.
 Coffea cruda
 In very sensitive persons liable to attacks as result of mental emotions. Inspiration labored jerky with uneasiness, heat and sweat. (Hering)

Croton tiglium
 Asthma with cough. Cannot expand chest.
 Drosera rotundifolia
 Asthma with coryza and mucus secretions. Dull pain in right lung. Chronic bronchitis.


Dulcamara
 Agg. Change of weather from warm to cold. Loose cough, rattling of mucus. Agg. wet weather. Cough after physical exertion. Asthma with dyspnoea.

Eriodictyon californicum
 Asthma with coryza and mucus secretions. Dull pain in right lung. Chronic bronchitis.PAGE 9

Eucalyptus globules
 Asthma with great dyspnoea and palpitation. Bronchitis in the aged.

Grindelia robusta
 Asthma with profuse tenacious expectoration. Stops breathing when falling asleep. Wakes with a start and gasps for breath. Cannot breathe when lying down.
 Hepar sulphur
 Agg. Dry cold air. Amel. in damp air. Choking cough. Anxious, wheezing moist breathing. Palpitations.

Hypericum perforatum
 Asthma agg. in foggy weather. Amel. profuse perspiration. Spasmodic asthmatic attacks with changes of weather or before storms. Amel. copious expectoration.
 Iodium
 Agg. Warm room. Amel. cool air. Sensation of heart being clasped and unclasped rapidly by an iron hand. Ravenous hunger - but loosing weight. Sensitive to heat. For persons with dark hair, overactive thyroid.

Ipecacuanha
 Paleness, sickness, anxiety. Accumulation of mucus which loads up bronchi until there seems to be great danger of suffocation. Violent dyspnoea with wheezing and great weight and anxiety about the the praecordia. Useful in first stage of asthma. When there is a feeling of constriction in the chest. Where asthma attacks end in vomiting (Tyler p. 437). Can be given every half-hour if necessary. (Ruddock)  

Kalium carbonicum
 Agg. 4-5 a.m.  Agg. touch. Sensitive to atmospheric changes and draughts (Stephenson p. 39). Especially adapted to broken down aged people who are anemic. Amel. sitting up and leaning forwards. Agg. lying on affected side. Stitching pain in chest (right lower) (of Nat. Sul = lower LEFT chest). Patients are irritable and full of fears. Cough with vomiting.

Kalium iodatum
 Asthma, stitching pains through lungs to back.

Kalium nitricum
 Asthma and cardiac asthma.
 Kalium phosphoricum
 Asthma, least food aggravates. Shortage of breath going upstairs. Cough. Helps breathing in nervous asthmatics. PAGE 10

Lac vaccinum defloratum
 Asthma when a result of EMPHYSEMA and pulmonary catarrh (Allen p. 119). Often constipated. 

Lachesis mutus
 Palpitations. Short of breath. Paroxysms of heat. Feels suffocated by collars, clothes etc. Sleeps INTO aggravation i.e.  wakes with asthma i.e.  agg. after sleep. Paroxysms of sneezing.
 Lycopodium clavatum
 Constrictive burning pain in chest. Choky. Agg. 4-8 p.m.  Colds go to chest (particularly right side).

Medorrhinum
 Asthma. Incessant dry cough. Pain and soreness through chest and mammae. Often follows Nat. sul. to finish the the cure (Shepherd 2. p. 31). Sleeps in knee-chest position amel. at seaside. Choking cough agg. lying down). Burning feet.

Naphthalinum
 Spasmodic asthma amel. open air. Soreness in chest and stomach. Must loosen clothing. Emphysema in aged with asthma.
 Natrium sulphuricum
 Constitutional sycotic remedy for ASTHMA IN CHILDREN. Pain through lower left chest. Every fresh cold brings on attack of asthma, agg. 4-5 a.m.  until afternoon. Agg. damp weather. Must hold chest when coughing. Loose cough. Good for VIOLENT attacks of asthma (Tyler p. 581). particularly following exertion. Often follows Ars. alb. or Thuja.
 Follow with Medorrhinum if it is not curing patient.
 Passiflora incarnata
 Anti-spasmodic asthma.

Phosphorus
 Cough agg. cold air, talking. Congestion of lungs. Tightness across chest, great weight on the the chest.

Ictodes foetida
 Asthmatic complaints. Troublesome respiration with sudden feeling of anguish and sweat. Sneezing with pain in throat, pain in chest. Asthma relieved by stool.

Ptelea trifoliata
 Asthma, cramp-like pains in cardiac region.

Pulsatilla pratensis
 Asthma plus giddiness and weakness in head, drowsiness, palpitations (Hering). Particularly effective if the patient is a Pulsatilla 'type' e.g.  fair-haired and weepy.

Rhus toxicodendron
 When very violent laboring of whole chest (Hering).
 Sambucus nigra
 Paroxysmal suffocative cough, coming o about midnight with dyspnoea. Child awakes suddenly, nearly suffocating, sits up, turns blue, cannot expire 'Millar's asthma'.  
Senega
 Cough, great accumulation of mucus, rattling, wheezing and difficult breathing. (use LOW par Nash. p. 462).

Silicea terra
 Humid asthma, Catarrh of chest, Coarse rattling, complexion pale, waxy, anemic, heat sweats, cold. (Shepherd 2, p. 50).


Squilla maritima
 Dyspnoea, chest rattling and wheezing. Face and hands purple from unoxygenated blood. Coughs.

Succinicum acidum
 Nervous and hysterical symptoms. Paroxysmal sneezing. Inflammation of respiratory tract. Chest pains. Asthma.

Succinum
 Asthma - Pain in chest. Chronic bronchitis.

Sulphur
 Short wheezing obstructed respiration with anxiety and fear of suffocation. Agg. lying down at night. Sensation as of dust in the lungs. Feeling that chest is constricted (Hering). Rattling of mucus. Blackie p. 202 suggests Sulphus at times checks any improvement in the symptoms and prevents other remedies from working for a while.

Thuja occidentalis
 Where asthma started after vaccination. CHRONIC asthma. Asthma in children, particularly after suppression of skin symptoms.

Veratrum album
 When patient is almost suffocated, perhaps with pain in the side agg. sitting up, motion. Amel. lying or quiet., cold sweats (Hering). Much mucus in bronchial tubes, cough.

Veratrum viride
 Congestion of the lungs with difficult breathing. Should NOT be used if the heart is weak.
 Zincum metallicum
 Cannot expectorate, but is relieved as soon as he can.
